Start: Mile 1129 (North Fork Blackwood Creek) [California Section K - Page 5]
End: Mile 1146 [California Section K - Page 8]

My foot hurts, which makes me slow. I run into Taka, Wolverine and Evenstar. At lunch i run into four lost mountainbikers. I remind them that mountainbiking is prohibited in the Granite Chief Wilderness. I’m met with rudeness and indifference. They don’t care. “we’re lost” is their explanation, and “the pct ends here” How it follows that breaking the law is alright if you’re lost they don’t bother to explain. Also how they know that the pct ends here if the’re lost is not really clear. They disappear over the trail to five lakes without asking for directions, At 1142 we reach the last water for the next 15 or so miles at Squaw Creek. We camp early at 1146. I’ll have a netter day tomorrow if I get up early like they do.
At 11:15 pm I wake up to the sound of motorcycles. Their bright headlights light up the forest. Their on the PCT! My heart is pounding. What are they doing here? What if they see me?
When all is quiet again I’m wide awake and angry. What is wrong with these people who have to disturb the peace and quiet that I’ve made such an effort to find? Why do they have to ruin the last little bit of wilderness that we have left?

That makes me sad; it’s amazing how much junk you find on trails. It makes it that much worse when you find motorized vehicles on trails that are only supposed to be for foot traffic. Sigh. I’m glad nothing negative came of it, though.
